Expression shape 18

The word ‘substances’ includes drugs, alcohol, smoking and vaping.

Safe east has a substance misuse service that supports children and young people with:

  • Advice and guidance
  • Information about substances, including use prevention and reduction
  • Health assessment
  • Care planning to reduce substance misuse, risk and harm

Children and young people may also access education from Safe East in schools around substances and the risk of using them.

We also support professionals with training in schools and at community events professionals can support children and young people in the best way.

How to access support

A child or young person can ask for support themselves. Family and professionals can also request support for a child or young person, but they must have their consent.

To get support, children and young people can complete the form below. We understand that not everyone wants to complete a form – children and young people can call us via our contact us page or visit us .

Complete the form

What to expect

Before any support or treatment happens, consent and confidentiality will be explained to children and young people, including our safeguarding responsibilities.

The Safe East team will check with children and young people that the space feels safe and is confidential before giving them the opportunity to say what support they need in their own words; it is understandable that children and young people may feel worried but the team will listen, will never judge no matter what, and will give them the time to talk.

All available support options will be discussed so that children and young people can make an informed decision about their care.
